Week of April 23rd, 2012

Happy Friday!
I hope you had a great week!

As always...

Reminder: I am hoping to attend some of the students' extra curricular functions.  Feel free to send me any dates or schedules for anything your student may be participating in before the end of the school year!

Lead Teaching Week 2:  This was my second lead teaching week and it went great!  Thank you to all of the students for making my job easier with all of their hard work and respect.  Everyone should be very proud of their students.  I certainly am!

Literacy

Poetry Cafe: Thank you so much to everyone who came to our Poetry Cafe on Tuesday!!  It was so fun to watch all the students perform their Joyful Noise poems for two or three voices as well as their individual poems.  We were extremely impressed with every single student.  Thank you again to everyone who contributed to the food and beverages for our cafe.  It would not have been as successful without you!

Writing:
We wrapped up our poetry unit this week by reading our favorite poems at the Poetry Cafe!  We are typing up our poems, illustrating them, and compiling them for our individual poetry books.

Reading:
We finished up our Joyful Noise poems by reading them at the Poetry Cafe!  We started reading our animal fantasy book club books this week.  We are working on making connections to the text even though it is a fantasy.  We also worked on creating mental images when we read and will keep this in mind as we read our book club and independent reading books!

Social Studies:
We continued the Pioneers unit.  This week our pioneers selected their supplies they would be taking on their journey west.  They also wrote their first diary entry about their thoughts on moving away from their home and traveling along the Hacker Trail to Oregon.

Math:
We wrapped up our money unit this week by going on a shopping spree!  Everyone was given a monthly salary and bills they needed to pay.  After writing out their bills and balancing their registers, they were able to shop at a few pretend classroom shops using however much money they had leftover.  We had a great time doing this unit!  We start measurement next week!

Extra:

Pop and Rock Celebration:
Chavez got 750 cheetah paws for being respectful students.  On Friday we were got to eat popsicles and have a short dance party!

Music Concert:
It was so fun watching everyone sing their songs about the United States.  We finally got to see what those letters the students were working on were used for!  The teachers' personal favorite was On Wisconsin!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
(Rainy day recess fun!)
