Happy May!
(Although it seems those April showers are carrying over into May...)
As always...
Reminder: I am hoping to attend some of the students' extra curricular functions. Feel free to send me any dates or schedules for anything your student may be participating in before the end of the school year!
It was an incredibly busy week! Here we go...
Literacy:
Reading: This week we started discussing our animal fantasy books. We are working on making connections and creating mental images. This can be challenging since we are reading things that could not happen in real life. We also continue to work on our independent reading books. Since we are doing our book club work, only the log is due next Wednesday :-)
Writing: We are finishing up our poetry books and starting our creative choice projects this week. Be sure to ask your student (or students, tell your family and friends) what you decided to do! They never cease to amaze me with their creativity.
Math: We started our Measurement unit this week. We discussed the importance of using units and practiced some measuring Thursday. We were so busy measuring objects in our classroom, we didn't even get a chance to take pictures of it! I did snap a few pictures of some of the supplies we will be using in our unit. We are doing a "Measuring Penny" project throughout the rest of the year in which the students bring in a stuffed animal and we do measuring projects each week dealing with our animal and the measurement topic of the week (Ex: I am measuring for Elvis the Bear. During the liquid capacity part of our measurement unit, I will be figuring out much liquid my animal will require. Some will need more than others.). We are excited to get rolling on this project!
Social Studies: We continue on our journey down the Hacker Trail by hearing of our fates and completing our first Trail Decision regarding lack of water on the trail, something that happened to real-life pioneers during the westward movement. We also continue to see a lot of awesome bonus projects. We are learning a TON from each other and from our journey!
I leave you with this awesome image of our class after we all read poetry selections together to close out our unit:
If this isn't friendship, I don't know what is!
Have a great week!!
