Happy Teacher Appreciation Week(end)!
Thank you SO much for all the cards, gifts, and thanks! You're all so sweet and the reason we teach!
As always...
Reminder: I am hoping to attend some of the students' extra curricular functions. Feel free to send me any dates or schedules for anything your student may be participating in before the end of the school year!
Literacy
Reading:
We finished part two of our animal fantasy books and continue to think about connections we can make to the text from our own experiences. We are also working on creating mental images from vivid details within our books. Students are doing an excellent job doing both! We will finish our books for next week and continue to make connections and create mental images.
Writing:
We continue to work on our creative writing pieces. They are so funny, artistic, and unique! I CANNOT wait to read them all when they are finished!
Word Study:
This week we worked on prefixes again! Students did a great job!
Math:
This week we worked on area and perimeter. We measured objects in the room to find the area and perimeter of them and then worked on finding the area and perimeter when the numbers are already given. Last, we figured out how to find the area and perimeter of oddly shaped figures and figured out the area and perimeter of our animals' house.
Social Studies:
This week we continued learning about Pioneers. We had another Trail Decision to make and discuss the possible outcomes. Each wagon train weighed all of the options and made a choice. We also had a few fates occur that resulted in delays of our wagon trains. Students are learning SO much about what it was like to be on the trails west during the westward movement.
As a bonus project, Maya made popcorn balls, an authentic treat the Pioneers used to enjoy!
Extra:
I had the opportunity to see Brandon play in his Little League Baseball game. His team won and Brandon definitely helped out with some great plays!
Have a great weekend!
